I went to Boost Women for the very the first time recently.
The Christmas Dinner and Gift Sale held on December 8 was well attended.
Each month, women are invited to spend a few hours networking with others who are in business. More than 60 women attend the event once a month at the United Steelworkers’ Hall on Brady Street.
The three course dinner costs $40 with the option of having a vendor table free of charge.
It was a lot of fun making new friends and connecting with old ones.
I decided to have a table to display my products.
A free portrait session was one of my giveaways at my station.
As I made my rounds, I noticed some interesting entrepreneurs who had some neat ideas.
Some of the tables had crafts, clothing, beauty products, jewelry, books, pet products, spiritual healing and even coffee. The 2 LiL Monkeys had the cutest crocheted hats (OMG!). The name really does speak for itself.
There is usually a guest speaker after dinner. A representative from the Sudbury Women’s Centre talked about some of the things they do to help women.
Guest speakers have included image consulting, wellness, bookkeeping, catering, event planning, marketing and public relations.
Near the end of the evening a draw takes place. Vendors participate by donating an item valued at ten to twenty dollars.
I didn’t win anything but several people walked away with items such as beauty products, clothing and free services. I donated blank greeting cards which I create from my fine art photography. One of the ladies who sat at my table won them. The cards had angel photographs on them. She told me how happy she was to have them because she was going to send one to her friend who does Angel Card readings.
I encourage women who are in business or belong to any kind of organisation to participate in this event. It’s a wonderful networking opportunity and I will most certainly be back.
